The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the lack of quorum is often disrupting the Parliament’s functioning and asked the party members of BJP to be present in the sessions and that he will address them at any moment.

At the BJP’s Parliamentary meet, the PM informed all the leaders attending that it is their basic duty to be present in the parliament and added in utter frustration that he cannot attend the parliament sessions on their behalf. Modi took this initiative after the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar spoke to the PM regarding the absenteeism even yesterday and how it is affecting the functioning of the Parliament. The PM also apparently told the ministers that it does not matter if they were in the Central Hall, the place to host meetings and that it was important for him that they should all be in the Houses. A senior BJP leader said that the PM said to them that, “I can call any of you anytime.” He also added that Modi sounded quite unhappy over unfulfilled quorum. The BJP ministers added that PM has in the past spoken over this issue, but this was the first time that he addressed the issue in such detail.

The PM in today’s session of Parliament had also declared that there will be a reshuffling of the cabinet after the Parliament sessions as it is important to have a dedicated Defence Minister. This decision was taken so as to appoint a dedicated Defence Minister, who will be handling one Ministry and be present to take instant decisions.
