On Saturday, Sushma Swaraj received a cry for help from Mohammad Akbar, father of Mohammadia Begum, requesting the Minister to help his daughter in Pakistan. Akber requested Swaraj to help bring her back to the country from Pakistan. The message to the Minister said that his daughter was being tormented by her in-laws in Pakistan and is held captive by her husband.
The father apparently had emailed Sushma Swaraj regarding the same in January, to which she immediately made the Indian Counselors to visit Begum and arrange for a phone call with her parents. Through the call, Begum explained to her parents the woes she was facing at her in-law’s place. Mohammadia Begum has five children from her marriage. Hajara Begum, Mohammadia’s mother said, “He even tells the children to keep themselves away from her as she is a Hindustani and all Hindustanis are Hindus.”
Muhammad Younis, Mohammadia Begum’s husband and she have 5 children, 3 boys, and 2 girls. Younis has apparently married a second time. The victim’s father is a cycle mechanic in Hyderabad. He confessed that during the wedding, Younis had hidden his nationality and cheated the family. The minister has made arrangements for Mohammadia to be brought home to her parents. The parents have requested Swaraj that even her children be brought along with her, for their betterment.
