Vote Counting in Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti begins in BMC

The counting of votes in the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti of Maharashtra elections began today. The Election results of the 25 Zilla Parishads and 118 Panchayat Samitis will be declared by the end of the day today.

In the 25 Zilla Parishads, 11 Zilla Parishads voted on February 16 and all the others voted on February 21. A total of 855 seats were being contested for the Phase 1 and another 1,172 seats were voted for in the total Panchayat Samitis. In Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli districts of South Maharashtra, a total of 191 Zilla Parishad and 382 panchayat samitis went for polls in phase 2. The vote counting of 25 Zilla Parishad and 118 panchayat samitis began at 10:00 A.M., today, that is Thursday.

The major parties participating in the Maharashtra State include Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, Indian National Congress, National Congress Party, Maharashtra Navnirman Sema and All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM.) The second generation of top leaders participated in the Zilla Parishad Polls. Some of them are, grandson of Sharad Pawar, Rohit Pawar contested from Baramati. Dheeraj Deshmukh, the youngest son of Late CM Vilas Rao Deshmukh also contested in the elections.

The other contestants include BJP state unit President daughter of Raosaheb Danwe. Aditi Takare daughter of NCP President Sunil Takare and son of Babanrao Lonikar from BJP. 21.38 lakh voters will decide the fate of 322 candidates in Kolhapur for 67 seats. For this 538 candidates contested in 134 Panchayat Samiti seats.
