Pierce Brosnan Trolled for his Pan Bahar Slip Up

Pierce Brosnan, the actor who is perhaps one of the most celebrated of actors to portray the role of James Bond, was recently seen in an over the top and in your face kind of commercial with Pan Bahar, a gutka brand that claims to be 0% tobacco free mouth freshner.

The ad shows Brosnan in a series of ridiculously unbelievable fights that involve Pan Bahar as the deadly weapon. Well they got that part right because the “mouth freshner” is a concoction of areca nut, a stimulant, and spices often chewed along with tobacco or betel leaf. But actually World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies the areca nut as carcinogenic to humans. Brosnan says he had no idea he was endorsing for such brand and instead believed he was promoting a teeth-whitening breath freshener.

The Twitterati had a field day with his statement saying that Borsnan saying he had no idea about the brand he was endorsing is just like Delhi residents saying they had no idea about the party they were voting for (read AAP.) But Pierce went ahead to state that he was deeply shocked and saddened with the turn of events. “Having endured, in my own personal life, the loss of my first wife and daughter as well as numerous friends to cancer, I am fully committed to supporting women’s healthcare and research programs that improve human health and alleviate suffering,” his statement read.

On the other hand, the spokesperson of Ashok & Co., owners of the brand, are defending saying that they have in fact adhered 100% to the contract and Pan Bahar is just a mouth freshener. Well, if nothing, this sure was a breath of fresh air from all the other serious trending news!
