The Election Commission on Wednesday decided to freeze the AIADMK’s two leaves symbol. The camps were given an option to choose different party symbols, and also a different permutation of the party names.
Sasikala camp opted for the name ‘ADMK AMMA’ and has been given an option of ‘auto, bat and cap’, in which they chose the auto as the party symbol. Whereas, the O. Panneerselvam camp demanded that their party be named ‘AMMA AIADMK’ and requested the symbol of an ‘electric poll.’
Both the camps have expressed shock as none of them expected the poll panel to freeze the ‘two leaves’ symbol of AIADMK. They also said that they would make all efforts to revive it and unfreeze it. The party Deputy General Secretary and Sasikala’s nephew T.T.V. Dinakaran said he had not expected this outcome and that he will win back the symbol of ‘two leaves’ after winning the RK Nagar bypolls.
The EC also said they only delivered a temporary verdict ad they did not have enough time to examine the documents and claims that have been submitted by both the parties to give a fair decision. The EC also said both the sides can submit extra documents so that they can reassess and make their case before April 17.
