Finally India is first in something – something good that too! Our very own Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is now the most followed world leader with almost 40 million followers on Facebook. According to a report published by Burson-Marsteller, Narendra Modi became the leader after Barack Obama stepped down from his presidency who has a following of almost 55 million on the social media site.

At the second position, the list saw U.S.A. President Donald Trump with 20 million followers on his personal page while the third position belonged to the PMO India account on Facebook, which had over 13 million followers. Other Indian leaders that featured in the top 20 list included President Pranab Mukherjee at number 9 and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at number 16.

Modi also had the most engagement on Facebook in 2016. The pictures of Prime Minister’s mother visiting his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg was the second most popular post in 2016. With 169 million interactions, PM Modi’s page engagement is far more than the second-placed world leader, Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, who had 58 million interactions. The archived Obama White House page takes the third place with 36 million interactions while Argentine President Mauricio Macri page interaction fell under 36 million. Unfortunately for Obama, even though being the most followed celebrity, his engagement levels are only about 0.15%. Take a not out of Modi’s book maybe?
