WhatsApp to stop working on few operating systems by end of 2016

The new year is just around the corner, and the WhatsApp announcement will force millions to abandon their plans and buy a new phone to access WhatsApp. The application recently celebrated its 7th year anniversary and as soon as the celebrations ended the notice rolled out about the discontinuation of WhatsApp on several phones including those with Windows 7. After launching in 2009, WhatsApp was supported by several Operating Systems, these include even some basic phones. While some mobile phones got a software update, others couldn’t support new software and hence retained the old operating system in the mobile and in turn leaving WhatsApp in the basic application form.

In a blog post, WhatsApp released a statement saying, “The Apple App Store was only a few months old. About 70 percent of smartphones sold at the time had operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia. Mobile operating systems offered by Google, Apple and Microsoft – which account for 99.5 percent of sales today – were on less than 25 percent of mobile devices sold at the time.”

iPhone 3GS and iOS 6 will also no longer support Whatsapp.
