Starting Tuesday, the US banned passengers from eight countries temporarily from bringing laptops, iPads, cameras and almost all types of electronic devices into their country. These electronic goods are mainly not allowed in carry-on luggage and are allowed into check in with special permission. The government has not given any specific reason for this ban and the US security officials rejected from giving any statement.

This ban was revealed on Monday, wherein the Royal Jordanian Airlines and Saudi Arabia’s official news agency released a statement regarding the same. A US official speaking to the Associated Press said that this ban is applicable to 10 international airports from the US which include Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (2), Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. Officials were, according to reports, barred from giving out details.

The Royal Jordanian Airlines revealed that mobile phones and medical devices were not included in this ban. All other devices, according to the airlines will be packed and will be permitted in check in luggage. As of the total list of countries banned from carrying electronics is yet unclear.

Almost all the main airports in the United States have a computer tomography or CT scanner for checked baggage. This creates a complete picture of a bag’s contents and can warn the operator regarding the potentially dangerous material in the luggage. It provides better security than the X-ray machines used to screen passengers and their carry on bags. It was also said that all the checked baggage should be screened for explosives.
