Amaravathi: In a swift response, Chirala police apprehended the accused in the rape and murder of a woman in Bapatla district within 48 hours of the incident. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, expressing outrage over the crime, directed Director General of Police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao to conduct a thorough investigation.
The Chief Minister, closely monitoring the case, instructed the police to take stringent action against those involved in such atrocities. Home Minister Anitha visited Chirala to meet the victim’s family, announcing an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh. Under the direct supervision of the District Superintendent of Police, ten special teams were formed to nab the culprits.
Three suspects, Vijay, Mahesh, and Srikanth, were taken into custody. According to Bapatla SP Vakul Jindal, Vijay and Mahesh, in an inebriated state, encountered the woman near a railway track, assaulted her, and then killed her. Srikanth assisted them and provided refuge.
Cases under Sections 302 and 376 IPC have been registered. The SP assured that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure the accused face severe punishment, with FIRs based on the collected evidence.
