Andhra Pradesh: 7 Workers Die Of Suffocation In Kakinada

In Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada region, seven workers died of suffocation, while cleaning an oil tanker at a factory.

The incident occurred on the 9th of February, when workers were cleaning the tanker and allegedly had inhaled toxic fumes at the factory.

Mr. Ravindranath Babu, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kakinada said, “Seven people died while cleaning oil tanker in Ambatti Subanna oil factory situated in Rajampeta, outside of Peddapuram.  A total of eight labourers were deployed to clean sludge at the oil mill.”

The deceased workers are identified as Vechangi Krishna, Vechangi Narasimham, Vechangi Sagar, Korathadu Banji Babu, Karri Rama Rao, Kattamarri Jagadeesh and Prasad.  The workers started working 10 days ago and were residents of  Alluri Sitharama Raju district and Pulimeri region.

Meanwhile, the Kakinada Police registered a case against the factory owner, as the oil factory was not registered under the Factory Act.  An investigation into the matter is underway.
