In Andhra Pradesh’s Atmakur Assembly constituency, the by-election is underway for the Assembly seat, on the 23rd of June, Thursday.

According to sources, the voting started at 7:00 A.M. and is scheduled to be held till 6:00 P.M.  Till 11:00 A.M., the constituency, registered 24.92% polling.

In the by-election, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) filed Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy against the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the JanaSena Party (in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party) leaders.

A total of 12 candidates, including YSRCP and BJP, are in the fray in the by-elections. Furthermore, approximately 2,13,388 voters are eligible to exercise their right to vote at 279 polling stations set up for them. The voting process is moving ahead smoothly, with the video recording and 78 webcasting.

Notably, after the demise of Mr. Mekapati Goutham Reddy, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Atmakur, the seat fell vacant leading to elections in the constituency.   Now, his brother Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy has been selected to contest the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) ticket.  He would be the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) candidate against the Telugu Desam Party and the JanaSena Party, contesting in the fray for the by-election.

The results of the  Atmakur election are scheduled to be out on the 26th of June.
