In Andhra Pradesh’s Duggirala region of Guntur district, the Mandal Praja Parishad (MPP) election process is underway. The elections started on the morning of the 5th of May, Thursday.
According to sources, Ms. Subhani filed a nomination from the Yuvajana Stamika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), Mr. Waheedullah filed a nomination on behalf of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.)
It is known that the TDP has won 9 seats, the YSRCP won 8 seats and the JanaSena won 1 seat out of a total of 18 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) seats.
Meanwhile, the MPP position is reserved for a Backward Class (BC) woman. However, in the absence of BC women members from the TDP, the TDP is trying to woo the YSRCP women members. The YSRCP has two women MPTCs.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media on the occasion, the YSRCP Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mr. Alla Ramakrishna Reddy questioned why TDP is creating confusion in the elections which should be held democratically. He said, “We made no mistake anywhere and will go ahead with only 8 winners; in the absence of a woman candidate in the TDP, they are trying to lure YSRCP leaders to their side.”
The MPP Post is reserved for a BC woman, which would be likely from the YSRCP, as it is the only party that has the BC MPTC candidates.
