On the 19th of July, the East Godavari police arrested twelve people including a woman, accused in a gang rape case.
According to sources, a 16 year old Dalit girl was gang raped on the 12th of July. The accused raped the girl for 3 days, under Korukonda police limits in Rajamahendravaram city of East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh.
The case came in the light after the East Godavari police arrested all the accused.
Director Superintendent of Police (DSP) of North Zone P. Satyanarayana Rao said, “A 20 year old woman named M. Anitha of Rajamahendravaram city is one of the accused. She is the one who reportedly handed over the victim to the accused as per their plan. The gang of 11 youths sexually assaulted the victim in Rampa Agency before bringing her back to Rajamahendravaram city, where they allegedly raped her for three days in a room.” The DSP further said, “The 12 accused were arrested on Sunday evening, and all of them are in the age group of 20 to 25.”
Of the 11 youth accused, 9 were identified as M. Sai, D. Siva Kumar, R. Venkata Durga, K. Vijaya Kumar, K. Gowri Manohar, P. Rajesh, G.S.S. Sai Vara Prasad, U. Raviteja and N. Bobby. Two others are yet to be identified.
Meanwhile, the rape survivor was shifted to the District Government Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Vasireddy Padma, the Chairperson of A.P. Women’s Commission met the rape survivor and assured best medical treatment.
The police launched an investigation and booked all the accused under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)
