Andhra Pradesh: First Phase Panchayat Elections Nomination Filing Begins Today

On the 29th of January, the SEC officially announced the nomination process for 3,249 panchayats. 

In the first phase, the elections would be held for panchayats in 146 constituencies in 11 districts except Prakasam and Vizianagaram.

The first phase of the Gram Panchayat elections are scheduled to be held on the 9th of February and a notification regarding the same was issued on the 27th of January.

According to sources, Returning Officers by panchayat issued notifications for nomination filing at 10:30 A.M., on the 29th of January.

With this, from 10:30 A.M., the nomination filing process started in Andhra Pradesh for the Panchayat elections, first phase.

The nominations for the first phase would be received for three days between 10:30 A.M., to 5:00 P.M., till the 31st of January.

In addition to the post of Sarpanch, nominations are also accepted for the posts of ward members confirmed within the respective Gram Panchayats.

Though the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government said it is impossible to conduct the elections, the SEC announced to conduct the elections.

Since the beginning, the State Election Commission and the YSRCP Government have been in a tussle over the elections.

Despite several attempts, the Andhra Pradesh Government failed to delay the panchayat elections.

The Andhra Pradesh Grama Panchayat elections are scheduled to begin from the 9th of February and would continue till the 21st of February.

The first phase polling would be on the 9th of February, the second phase on the 13th of February, the third phase polling is scheduled for the 17th of February and the , for which final phase polling would be held on the 21st of February.
