On the 20th of July, the Andhra Pradesh Health department confirmed 5,041 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19. Of the total cases, 40% were reported in the past one week.
This is higher than any other state, barring Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. As a result, Andhra Pradesh jumped two places on Sunday to become the state with the fifth largest caseload in the country, overtaking Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh in the process.
With the new cases, the total reached to 49,650 cases till date. This is the biggest spike ever in the State since the infection broke out
The single day spike in Andhra Pradesh is even more than any other state except Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, the number of deceased with 56 new cases reached a total of 624 in the past 24 hours.
With these updates, Andhra Pradesh has a total 26,118 active cases, 22,890 recovered/discharged cases and 624 deceased.
Of the total active cases, were from 2,279 Guntur, Kurnool (3,319,) Anantapur (2,341,) Krishna (1,240,) East Godavari (4,819,) Chittoor (3,139,) Kadapa (1,246,) West Godavari (1,814,) Visakhapatnam (678,) Nellore (1,563,) Prakasam (671,) Srikakulam (1,599) and Vizianagaram (1,076.)
In addition, the mortality rate of COVID-19 in Andhra Pradesh is 1.29 % , the average growth rate of the infection is now 9% from the previous 8% and the recovery rate now is reduced to 46.01 % from the previous 48.79%.
Till the 20th of July, Andhra Pradesh conducted a total of 13,15, 532 tests for the Novel Coronavirus.
The total population of the State as per 2019 data is 5,22,21,000.
