The State Human Rights, on the 9th of March, Wednesday, issued a notice to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Godavari in the recent suicide case of Kalikrishna Bhagwan.
Recently, Kalikrishna Bhagwan, a 20 year old resident of Mandapeta in East Godavari district, died after being beaten by the East Godavari police. According to sources, the mother of Kalikrishna’s girlfriend, filed a case against Bhagwan over the alleged love affair of the couple. Acting upon the complaint, the East Godavari police arrested Kalikrishna and allegedly beat him to death. However, the police denied the allegations and said Kalikrishna committed suicide after being arrested by the police.
Although the police refused the allegations, the family of Kalikrishna demanded action against the police and alleged them of killing their son. Furthermore, the State Human Rights also issued notice and demanded a high level inquiry in the matter. The SHR Commission took a suo moto case through the media coverage of the incident. The HRC Chairman Justice Mandhata Sitaramamurthy, judicial member Dande Subramaniam and non-judicial member Mr. G Srinivasa Rao issued the notices.
The SHRC directed the police to submit their report over the incident by the 13th of April.
