Ambika Krishna, a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) on the 24th of June, announced his decision to resign as a member of the TDP and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
In less than a week, 4 TDP members resigned from the Party and joined the BJP. Ambika Krishna submitted his resignation to the TDP leaders.
On the 24th of June, in the presence of Ram Madhav, a member of the BJP, Ambika Krishna, a senior leader of the TDP from West Godavari, will join the saffron Party.
Apart from Ambika Krishna, his brother Ambika Raja will also switch parties and become a member of the BJP.
The devastating defeat of the TDP in the Lok Sabha and the Assembly elections may be the reason behind both of them leaving the TDP. However, there is no clarity regarding the reason yet.
This is a major setback for the TDP, which won 23 Assembly seats and 3 Parliament seats in Andhra Pradesh.
The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) formed the Government of Andhra Pradesh after winning 153 Assembly seats and 23 Parliament seats in the elections.
The AP Assembly and Lok Sabha elections took place on the 11th of April and the results were announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
After Ambika Krishna, more TDP leaders are expected to join the BJP.
