The Election Commission of India (ECI,) on the 28th of March, appointed a new poll observer for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Satpal Sharma, a senior officer from the Haryana cadre, was appointed as the poll observer for the Lok Sabha elections. He will observe the elections in Narsipatnam, Payakaraopeta and Elamanchili Assembly constituencies in Visakhapatnam.

The decision came after the ECI transferred 3 Indian Public Service (IPS) officers, after receiving a complaint from a Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) member.

According to the YSRCP, the three IPS officers were working for the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.) The transferred officers were A.B. Venkateswara Rao, the Intelligence Director General, Rahul Dev Sharma, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kadapa, and Venkata Ratnam, the SP of Srikakulam.

Satpal Sharma took over his duties from the 28th of March and can be contacted by the residents of the three constituencies via WhatsApp. Any individual with any sort of issues related to the elections can contact him and lodge a complaint against the parties or the party members, ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh will contest a total of 175 seats and 25 seats in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections respectively.

The Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on the 11th of April.

The major parties contesting the elections in Andhra Pradesh are the YSRCP, the TDP and the JanaSena Party.

The results of the Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
