The ongoing Krishna River water dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, intensified with the involvement of the opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The BJP unit in Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) used the ongoing tussle as an opportunity and criticised the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party.  In regard to this, the A.P., BJP President Somu Veerraju, on the 10th of July, addressed the media and said, they would expose the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government.  He said the State BJP unit would soon come up with a strategy to expose the YSRCP over the violation in the agreement of Krishna River water pact between the two Telugu states.

In a statement to the media, Somu Veerraju said, “Very soon we will strategise a clear movement to ensure the completion of all the pending projects across the state and expose the negligence of Reddy (Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy) even as Telangana CM’s antics are causing injustice to AP by violating existing water pacts.”

The criticism by the A.P., BJP unit was for the chief ministers of both the Telugu states, K. Chandrashekar Rao of Telangana and Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of A.P.

The A.P., BJP President alleged KCR and Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of continuing the water war for their personal political agendas and in order to gain publicity with continuous controversies.  He said, instead of resolving the matter and solving the issue, the state governments of Telangana and A.P., are harming the people.   The statement of Mr. Somu Veerraju came a day after Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote to the Central Government demanding intervention in the ongoing water dispute.  Highlighting the same, the A.P., BJP unit chief termed the letter as a drama of the YSRCP Government.  He said, “Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is speechless despite he is well aware of the great injustice being meted out by Andhra Pradesh.  It seems that KCR and Jagan Mohan Reddy were having a good understanding.  They are having conversation during night hours over phone and later in the morning scripting letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his involvement in water disputes.”

Concluding the press conference, the A.P., BJP President asked both the Telugu state chief ministers to resolve the water dispute mutually by involving the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB)amicably.
