AP Court Reviews Vizag Gas Leak Tragedy, Orders Seizure Of LG Polymers

The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) High Court (HC,) on the 24th of May,isued an ordered to seize LG Polymers company, which led the tragic Visakhapatnam gas leak incident.

On the 7th of May, a chemical gas was leaked from LG Polymers in small village of Visakhapatnam.  The incident claimed 12 lives and left 500 plus injured.

On the 23rd of May, the A.P., HC, reviewed the case filed against the company and asked the directors of the company to not leave the Country until the case is in the Court.  The Court also directed the authorities to not release their passports without the Court’s permission.

The case was reviewed by Chief Justice J.K. Maheshwari and Justice Lalitha Kanneganti.  Though an interim order was issued on the 23rd of May, an official order was issued on the evening of the 24th of May.

The Court said, “We further directed that none of the assets, mobile or immobile, fixtures, machinery and contents shall be allowed to be shifted without the leave of the court.”

Meanwhile, a committee appointed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and Andhra Pradesh Government are conducting an investigation regarding the case.

The Court also asked the State Government, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) to file a reply regarding the case by the 26th of May.

The next hearing of the Visakhapatnam gas leak tragedy is scheduled to the 28th of May.
