On the 4th of February, Friday, Mr. Gautam Sawang, the Director-General of Police (DGP) met with Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, over “Chalo Vijayawada” issue.

The meeting was held at the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Camp Office, in Tadepalli. During the meeting, Mr. Gautam Sawang briefed about the ongoing “Chalo Vijayawada” protest, called by the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) Struggle Committee.

Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy addressed the matter and asked the DGP about the detention and arrests made during the protest. It is to be noted, to prevent leaders and committee members from protesting, the Andhra Pradesh Police deployed forces and made several arrests and put many opposition party leaders under house arrest.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister has questioned the DGP on the success of the workers’ struggle and police’s cooperation with the employees.

Speaking about the situation, Mr. Gautam Sawang said the situation was different from what the police had expected as the BRTS road, about 4 km long, was filled with employees within minutes.

Responding to the situation, the State Chief Minister sought an explanation on how all these developments took place. The Government has received complaints that the intelligence system has failed to predict the arrival of employees.

Notably, there is a war going on between Andhra Pradesh employees and the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government, over the new PRC rules. The employees are against the recent Government Order (GO) issued over the PRC. The PRC Sadana committee of employees, teachers, workers, and pensioners passed a unanimous resolution for the strike. Notably, similar to the Telangana employees, the Andhra Pradesh Government employees are also demanding over 28% fitment. However, the Chief Secretary (CS) headed committee, refused the demand and provided only 14.7% fitment to the employees, citing the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

Meanwhile the PRC Sadhana Samithi will start a protest and call for a strike on the 7th of February.
