AP Government Approves APSRTC-State Government Merger

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) on the 16th of December, passed a bill facilitating the merging of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation with Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government.

The APSRTC-Andhra Pradesh Government merger was a long standing demand of the RTC workers in A.P.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., tabled the Bill, which was passed unanimously.  Mr. Reddy said, “The new Act is being made as to the A.P., Prohibition of Absorption of Employees of State Government Public Sector Undertakings Into Public Service Act, 1997 brought by Chandrababu Naidu government became an obstacle to the merger of the Corporation with the Government.”  He further said, “It will bring happiness to 52,000 employees and their families. Though it will put an additional burden of `3,600 crores per annum on the State exchequer, our Government has taken the historic decision.”

With the implementation of the Bill, the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP fulfilled its promise made to 52,000 RTC employees.  Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani,) the Transport Minister of Andhra Pradesh, also tabled the Bill and explained about the same with Jagan Mohan Reddy.  The merger would come into effect from the 1st of January, 2020.

On the 6th day of the Assembly session, the State Government passed as many as 16 Bills, including the one facilitating the APSRTC-State Government merger.

On the 17th of December, the YSRCP would conclude the Winter Session of the A.P., Assembly.
