AP Government Distributes Compensation To Vizag Gas Leak Victims

On the 11th of May, the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government distributed the released compensation to the victims of the Visakhapatnam gas leak.

On the 7th of May, there was a chemical gas leak from LG Polymers plant in Visakhapatnam, which killed 12 people and left thousands with health issues.  While 236 were admitted to the hospital, 70 were reported unconscious and 20 are on ventilators.

In the wake of the damage of lives and health issues for the ones who suffered, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led A.P., Government on the 9th of May, released Rs. 30 crores for compensation.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, announced an ex gratia  of Rs. 1 crore to the kin of those who died in the Visakhapatnam gas tragedy.  In addition,  those on ventilators will be paid Rs. 10 lakh each while others undergoing treatment in hospitals for two to three days would be given Rs. 1 lakh. 

State Cabinet ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, Kurasala Kannababu and Avanti Srinivas distributed a check of Rs. 1 crore each to the 12 families, who lost their family members in the incident.

In addition, the State ministers assured sanitization of the area and said the situation is under control and all the villagers who were asked to vacate their houses, could go back.

People from Gopalpatnam, Simhachalam and Pinagadi areas, which is 4 km from the plant who were moved after the chemical leak, are expected to go back by today evening.

Meanwhile, a high level committee organised by the State Government as well as the National Green Tribunal is investigating the matter.
