AP Government Resumes Distribution Of COVAXIN For Second Doses Against COVID-19

The Andhra Pradesh Health Department resumed administering second doses of COVAXIN, an India made vaccine against the Wuhan virus to people. The resumption of the second doses started after the State Government received a consignment of the COVAXIN.  

The State Government had a shortage of the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited COVAXIN, following which they stopped giving COVAXIN to the people in A.P.

However, on the 25th of May, Anil Kumar Singhal, the Principal Secretary of the Medical and Health Department of A.P., said, COVAXIN would be distributed in the State under the second dose on the 26th and the 27th of May. As of now, Andhra Pradesh has 1,17,980 doses of COVAXIN, of which 90,000 would be for people awaiting their second doses against the Wuhan virus. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Medical Health Department headquarters in Mangalagiri.

Meanwhile, Anil Kumar Singhal said, the State Government received 4.35 lakh doses of covishield from the Center. In addition, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government has directly procured 12.74 lakh doses of covishield.

Speaking about the administering of doses, Anil Kumar Singhal said, “We are offering these to employees over the age of 45 who have been working in the field since Monday, Covishield vaccines will be given under the first dose until June 15. (sic.)”

The State Government also assured oxygen availability, beds availability and medicine for treating people infected with Black Fungus. According to sources, Andhra Pradesh reported a total of 252 cases of Black Fungus, a side effect illness of post Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.) In addition, the State has a total of 1,98,023 active cases with 10,328 deaths due to the Wuhah virus.

Meanwhile, till now the Andhra Pradesh Medical Department has administered 78,78,604 doses of vaccine to people. In all, 23,38,719 people have been administered two doses and 32,01,022 have taken the first dose.
