The Andhra Pradesh Government announced a new excise policy in the Telugu State.
On the 18th of June, Saturday, the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government issued a notification regarding the same. It is to be noted, that the current bar licenses policy is scheduled to expire on the 30th of June, therefore, the new implementations have been added to the existing policy.
According to sources, the new excise policy would have a holistic policy and transparent selection process with two months for the selection of new bars. Furthermore, under the new policy, the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy decided not to increase the number of bars in the Telugu State, instead of limiting the numbers to 840, aiming for a reduction in liquor consumption.
The selection of the bars to give licenses would also be carried out through auction cum drawl of lots, for which bars under the limits of municipal corporations, municipalities, or Nagar panchayats would be eligible.
The license fee for 3-star hotels would be Rs. 5 lakh and the non-refundable registration charge is Rs. 50 lakh per annum. Implemented from the 1st of September, 2022, the new excise policy would remain in force for the next three years.
Meanwhile, a three-member committee consisting of the Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise, Commissioner of Distilleries, and Additional Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise will oversee the entire process of allocation of bars transparently.
