The Andhra Pradesh Government seized the Atchutapuram Seeds Company, amid toxic gas leakage from the company, affecting the people of Atchutapuram.

The decision was taken by Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, after complaints of toxic gas leakage from the company, having serious effects on the residents nearby.  The YSRCP issued orders to close the seeds company immediately and ordered not to open until further orders.  The State Government also ordered to take all the necessary measures to ensure better treatment for the victims, who suffered health issues due to the Atchutapuram Seeds Company. 

According to sources, the Andhra Pradesh Industries Minister Mr. Gudivada Amarnath reacted to the incident of gas leakage in Atchutapuram SEZ.  Speaking about the incident Mr. Gudivada Amarnath said, “It is unfortunate that another accident happened while the investigation was going on regarding the leakage of poisonous gas in the past.”  Furthermore, the Andhra Pradesh Minister said the seeds company is responsible for the accident and visited the injured victims of the toxic gas leakage incident at the NTR Government Hospital and inquired about their health condition. 

In Andhra Pradesh’s region, 121 people fell ill due to the gas leakage and are undergoing treatment at five different state run hospitals in Telugu State.

Furthermore, the Andhra Pradesh Government assured to bear the cost of the treatment of the victims, admitted to the hospital.  

According to sources, a preliminary report revealed the presence of complex chemicals and its leakage and a high level committee has been ordered to investigate the incident.
