The Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to appoint women for the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus driver posts.

The Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy Government has started initiating steps in this direction with the help of the State Social Welfare Department.  The department has prepared a plan to train the Scheduled Caste (SC) women of the State, to be the APSRTC bus drivers.  Furthermore, after the approval of Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the State Government would also issue guidelines for the selection of candidates, following which training details would be released.

In regard to this step, the EDs of SC Corporation of 13 joint districts have already been given preliminary instructions.  Candidates who have completed the 10th standard are eligible for this training and later for the job.  Furthermore, applications would be received this month, and after scrutiny, candidates would be selected by the Welfare Department.   After the selection, candidates would be given training for 32 days in the available RTC driving schools, in the 13 joint districts.

As a relief to the candidates, the State Welfare Department would bear the training expenses of the selected women candidates.  Along with training in driving, women are also given a heavy vehicle driving license.  Based on the qualification and skills of these candidates, in the first stage, they are proposed to be appointed to the vacant SC backlog posts in the APSRTC

It is to be noted, there are 310 SC backlog vacant APSRTC bus driver posts in Andhra Pradesh.
