AP HC Gives Verdict On E Watch App Use For Panchayat Elections

On the 9th of February, the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) directed the State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar not to use eWatch app without approval from the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government.

Till then, SEC was asked to make use of the Election Commission of India’s c-Vigil mobile app or Nigha app developed by the AP government for election related issues. In the last hearing, government lawyers have informed the High Court that the SEC is using eWatch app without security audit. The High Court asked the SEC to get security audit for the app from the AP Technology Services (APTS).

The APTS sent 24 questions to the SEC seeking information regarding eWatch app. However, the SEC did not give reply to the questionnaire. The High Court adjourned the hearing to the 17th of  February.
