The Andhra Pradesh High Court, on the 31st of October, reviewed the petitions filed against the construction of Polavaram Project.
After reviewing all the petitions which demanded a stay on the construction of the Polavaram Project, the AP HC approved the construction.
The AP High Court judges said the National Project, which could solve the water crisis in the State and benefit many villages, could restart construction.
The Polavaram Project was started under the leadership of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Central Government. The Project is a multipurpose irrigation project which is expected to solve the water crisis in Andhra Pradesh.
The AP HC cleared majority of the petitions regarding the stay on the construction of the Project. A few filed by opposition parties and companies are still pending.
Navayuga Engineering Company Limited (NECL) also filed a petition over the termination of its contract.
However, the Court dismissed the Company’s petition against the Project and the reverse tendering for the Project.
The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) is expected to start the construction of the Polavaram Project soon. Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) is the Polavaram Project’s new contractor.
According to sources, the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP saved Rs. 628 crores in the reverse tendering for the Polavaram Project.
