The Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC,) on the 14th of March, Monday, issued orders to the State Government over new district formation in Andhra Pradesh.

According to sources, the A.P., High Court bench reviewed a series of petitions filed against the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government’s decision to form new districts.

It is to be noted, Mr. Vijay Kumar, Mr. Rama Rao and Mr, Siddhartha filed separate petitions, stating that the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s order to form new districts is contrasting to the 371 (D) of the Constitution of India.

Under Article 371, the rights of local people in employment and education have been safeguarded and was created after agitation in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

After hearing the petitions, the HC asked the YSRCP Government to file a counterclaim regarding the concerns raised by petitioners.  The court also adjourned the matter after 8 weeks, in May.

Furthermore, previously, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was also filed in the State High Court , but the court refused to issue a stay order on the district formation as of now.

Notably, the YSRCP Government proposed to form 13 new districts, taking the tally to 26 districts in the State.  However, the people of Andhra Pradesh and opposition leaders (the Telugu Desam Party) protested against the same and wanted the Government to revoke the orders.

On the other hand, the State Government is aiming to complete the formalities and work of district formation by the 2nd of April.
