Taking a serious note of the recent stampede incident and killings of people, the Andhra Pradesh Police booked a case.
On the 2nd of January, Monday, the Andhra Pradesh Police registered a case against the organisers of the Telugu Desam Party’s Guntur Public meeting. It is to be noted, on the 1st of January, Sunday, three women were killed and as many as 18 were injured due to a stampede situation in Guntur during a public meeting, addressed by Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the TDP National President. The meeting was organised to distribute freebies like clothes, ration kits and other items to the underprivileged in the region. Soon a stampede occurred at the public meeting venue, leaving people dead and injured.
Rambabu, a resident of Guntur, filed a complaint with the Nallapadu Police Station against the organisers of the event Mr. Vuyyuru Srinivas and his Vuyyuru Foundation. As per sources, the case has been registered under culpable homicide not amounting to murder charges.
It is to be noted, the Andhra Pradesh police said the organisers were lacking sufficient arrangements, like the number of counters at the venue and volunteers, which caused over crowding and stampede.
Meanwhile, the Vuyyuru Foundation has announced an ex gratia of Rs. 20 lakhs for the families who lost their kin in the incident and also assured to bear medical expenses of those injured. In addition, Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu also announced an ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the family of victims, who died in the stampede incident.
