AP Reports 2 New Cases Of COVID-19's New Variant Omicron, Tally Reaches 4

On the 24th of December, Friday, Andhra Pradesh reported two more positive cases of Omicron, the new variant of the Wuhan virus (COVID-19.)

The Andhra Pradesh Health Department confirmed the cases from Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts.  Both the new cases, a 33 year old man and a 39 year old woman, were returnees from “at risk” foreign countries.  Getting into the details, the 39 year old woman recently arrived from Kuwait and the man landed in Visakhapatnam from the United Arab Emirates (UAE.)  While the woman returned on the 19th of December and the man returned on the 15th of December. 

Their samples were sent to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Hyderabad for genome sequencing, a test conducted to detect Omicron cases. 

The East Godavari Medical and Health Officer Mr. K.V.S. Gowriswara Rao said, in the East Godavari Omicron case, a woman, who landed at Vijayawada, tested positive.  He said, “She is presently in home isolation and doing well.  Her primary contacts tested negative.” 

With this, Andhra Pradesh reported a total of four Omicron cases so far.  The first Omicron case in the State was reported on the 12th of December.
