On the 26th of December, Sunday, Andhra Pradesh reported two more positive cases of Omicron, the new variant of the Wuhan virus (COVID-19.)
The Andhra Pradesh Health Department confirmed the cases from Prakasam and Anantapur districts. Both the new cases, a 48 year old and a 51 year old man, were returnees from “at risk” foreign countries. Getting into the details, the 48 year old man recently arrived from South Africa to Hyderabad and then travelled to Ongole and the other man landed from the United Kingdom (U.K.,) to Bengaluru and then Andhra Pradesh.
Their samples were sent to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Hyderabad for genome sequencing, a test conducted to detect Omicron cases.
As of now, both the Omicron positive patients are quarantined and are said to be in stable health conditions.
With this, Andhra Pradesh reported a total of six Omicron cases so far. The first Omicron case in the State was reported on the 12th of December.
