Botcha Satyanarayana, the Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) on the 29th of July, announced the Government of AP will soon conduct the Municipal elections.

Mr. Satyanarayan, during a meeting with the Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs,) said, “Rationalisation will be conducted to maintain uniformity of voters in the municipal wards and municipal divisions.”

After the announcement of the Municipal elections in the State, Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, a member of the TDP, raised a question regarding the merging of all the villages of Guntur Rural Mandal with the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC.)

Varaprasad asked if the Government proposes to merge the Guntur rural villages with the GMC, then when the details about the same would be available.

However, Mr. Botcha denied any such proposal and said only Lalpuram village is under consideration to be merged with the GMC.

K.S. Lakshmana Rao, a TDP member, also expressed his concern over the fact that since 14 years, no civic body polls were conducted to the GMC. He asked the AP Government to conduct elections to the civic body as soon as possible.

He cited the issues of residents of Guntur and the problems faced by them as elections were not conducted.

However, an official announcement regarding the dates of the Municipal elections in the State is yet to be made.

Stay tuned for further updates.
