Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed CH Dwaraka Tirumala Rao as the new Director General of Police (DGP). Rao, currently the Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), will now serve as the Director General of Police, Coordination (Head of Police Forces). The announcement was made by Chief Secretary Nirab Kumar Prasad on Wednesday night.
Rao, a 1989 batch IPS officer, tops the seniority list of Andhra Pradesh IPS officers. He hails from Devapuram, Guntur, and has a background in mathematics, having earned a gold medal from Central University. Rao’s career spans roles such as ASP in Kurnool, Kamareddy, and Dharmavaram, and SP in Anantapur, Kadapa, and Medak. He also served as DIG in various ranges and as Police Commissioner of Cyberabad. Since June 2021, he has led APSRTC.
This appointment follows the Election Commission’s removal of former DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy. Rao is set to assume his new role shortly.
