The Indian National Congress (INC) is expected to contest alone in the Assembly elections as well as the Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh.
Oommen Chandy, the All India Congress Committee General Secretary incharge of Andhra Pradesh, confirmed, the INC and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are no more allies and the INC will contest alone. He said, “We will contest all 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats alone.” He further added, “The TDP allied with us only at the national level, so we will have no truck [with it] in the State.”
Mr. Chandy said, the party officials and Lok Sabha members will meet on the 31st of January to decide the strategies and discuss about the elections.
The INC is also expected to organise rallies in the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, as a campaign strategy ahead of the elections.
The INC and the TDP formed an alliance to contest the Telangana Assembly elections held on the 7th of December 2018. The major parties against the INC were the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
Andhra Pradesh will conduct its Assembly elections along with the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled between April and May 2019.
The major parties contesting in Andhra Pradesh are the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the TDP, the INC and the JanaSena Party.
