On the afternoon of the 25th of May, a major fire broke out in Visakhapatnam’s petrol plant.

According to sources, the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh reported a blast. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation and ablazed the fire. In addition, a team of Indian Navy experts also rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation and help the administration. Soon, the fire was brought under control.

The District Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aishwarya Rastogi said, “As per information, a blast was reported at Unit-3 plant in the HPCL. Five fire tenders are present at the spot. More fire tenders are being rushed. The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.”

According to sources, the fire erupted in the crude distillation unit (CDU) in the HPCL old terminal. An emergency siren was immediately sounded following which the employees and workers rushed out of the unit. A worker at the spot said, “There was a deafening sound like a blast and there was a ball of fire. The siren sounded and we all came running out to safety.”

Meanwhile, the administration reported no casualties and are trying to find the reason behind the fire. In addition, the authority also shut down the CDU immediately.
