The family members of Kodela Siva Prasad Rao, the former Speaker of Andhra Pradesh (AP) Assembly, on the 18th of September, refused full state honours for his last rites.

On the 17th of September, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government offered full state honours for the funeral of Kodela Siva Prasad Rao, a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.)

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of AP, directed L.V. Subrahmanyam, the General Secretary of AP, to make the necessary arrangements for the state honours funeral.  However, the family members of Kodela, who believe the reason behind Kodela Siva Prasad Rao’s death is the harassment of the YSRCP Government, did not accept his offer of the state honours.

According to sources, late Kodela Siva Prasad was emotionally disturbed due to the multiple criminal and corruption cases against him and his family, due to which he committed suicide.

On the 16th of September, Kodela Siva Prasad Rao attempted suicide by hanging himself.  He later died at Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad while undergoing treatment.

Nara Lokesh, the General Secretary of the TDP, criticised the YSRCP Government and said, “It’s a Government sponsored murder. How can the family accept the state honours from the State Government?”

The last rites of Kodela Siva Prasad Rao will be performed on the 18th of September, at his native place in Narasaraopet in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh.

Stay tuned for further updates.
