Delhi: Election Commissioner Arun Goyal’s resignation ahead of general election is sparking a major political controversy. Opposition parties and alliance partners of INDIA alliance alleged that too much pressure from BJP led to the resignation.
They demanded a clear explanation on resignation and expressed doubts whether Goyal is contesting elections. Opposition parties alleged that the resignation of the election commissioner is creating doubts on the entire process.
Jai Ram Ramesh, general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) expressed doubts over the resignation of Goyal. “There might be one among these three reasons for the resignation. First one is differences with the chief election commissioner. Second one is too much pressure from Modi and his team. Third one is resignation due to personal reasons,” Jai Ram said.
He should give clarity whether he tendered resignation to contest in polls similar to Kolkata high court judge Gangopadyaya, Jai Ram demanded.
Oppositions alleged that Modi is mocking the state government.
