The ongoing issue over movie tickets in Andhra Pradesh, intensified with the war of words between Mr. Perni Nani and movie director Mr. Ram Gopal Verma.
On the 5th of January, Wednesday, the Andhra Pradesh Minister Mr. Perni Nani continued a heated debate, answering criticism from Mr. Ram Gopal Verma, on Twitter. The two took to the micro blogging site, Twitter and engaged in a back and forth, over the movie ticket matter.
Responding to Mr. Ram Gopal Verma, Mr. Perni Nani said, the Government would not regulate prices based on the cost of the production of movies and made clear that it will be done based on the facilities provided by the theatres.
In another series of tweets, Mr. Perni Nani said that the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government would not keep quiet if the theatres exploit the people in the name of big movies.
The tweets were posted in Telugu, which was an answer to Mr. Ram Gopal Verma, who raised questions about the Government’s intervention in movie ticket prices.

Mr. Ram Gopal Verma said, “Dear honourable minister of cinematography @perni_nani sir, I understand government might intervene and fix a price below or above the equilibrium when there’s a dire shortage of an essential commodity like wheat, rice , kerosene oil etc , But how does that apply to films sir ?”
Notably, the YSRCP Government issued a Government Order (GO) announcing a new movie ticket portal. The YSRCP Government passed the order to set up a State run website for the online sale of cinema tickets in both single and multiplex theatres. The decision to enter the business of movie tickets was taken to ensure corruption free ticket selling and tax evasion from private companies. The sudden issued order of the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy Government shocked the people of the Tollywood Industry and Cineplex and Multiplex businessmen. As per the new GO, the State Government would soon float a new online portal, selling movie tickets under the AP State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation. In regard to this, the State Government also formed a committee, which is working on the modalities and the blueprint.
Concerned with the future statistics and losses due to the new online movie ticket portal, the Telugu film industry are constantly speaking against the order, demanding withdrawal of the GO.
