Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, held a meeting with the state chief ministers (CMs) amid the rising Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the nation.

The meeting was held on the 27th of April, Wednesday, through video-conferencing with the State CMs, which was also attended by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, and other senior leaders in Delhi.

The Prime Minister said that we cannot let our guard down and have to stay alert as it is clear that the COVID challenge has yet not been surpassed.  During the meeting, Mr. Narendra Modi said, “Despite managing the COVID crisis well as compared to other countries, we can see cases’ uptick in states now. We have to stay alert. It’s clear that the COVID challenge has yet not been surpassed.”  He further added, “Coordination between state and Centre is very important. Russia-Ukraine war has affected the supply chain which has posed many challenges.  Hence Cooperative Federalism is important.  Scaling-up of manpower and medical infrastructure was also discussed in today’s COVID review meeting.”

It is to be noted, the meeting came at a time when the Novel Coronavirus is rising in the nation, especially when schools and educational institutions started offline classes. Concerned with the situation, Mr. Narendra Modi said, “Schools have reopened in the country after a long time. In such a situation, families are concerned about rising COVID-19 cases. It is our priority to inoculate all eligible children as soon as possible.”

Mr. Modi further added that the state should consider ramping up COVID-19 vaccination drives and vaccinate students who are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.  He said, “We need to ensure that parents and teachers are aware of such initiative.”

Meanwhile, it is to be noted, India is keeping up with the COVID-19 situation and is handling the situation better than other countries which are currently facing fourth wave.
