PM Modi Wishes Sharad Pawar On His 79th Birthday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wished Sharad Pawar, the President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP,) on the latter’s 79th birthday on the 12th of December.  Mr. Modi said, “Greetings to Sharad Pawar Ji on his birthday. Praying for his long and healthy life.”

Political leaders of several parties took to Twitter and wished Sharad Pawar on his birthday.

Mr. Pawar started his day by conducting a meeting with Party workers at the Y.B. Chavan Centre in Mumbai.  During the meeting, the NCP workers greeted Mr. Pawar and wished for his good health.

Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar’s daughter and a member of the NCP, also took to Twitter and wished her father on his 79th birthday.

Ms. Sule, in Marathi, wrote, “Dear Baba, you are a constant source of energy for us. You gave us the bright legacy of ideology and also the strength to tread on it..Baba, boundless birthday greetings to you. Wishing you long healthy life.”

Nawab Malik, the Spokesperson of the NCP, also posted a birthday message which read, “Birthday greetings to the architect of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi Government, President of Nationalist Congress Party Honourable Shri Sharadchandra Pawar Saheb.”

Mr. Pawar is one of the strongest leaders of the NCP and the backbone of the Party in Maharashtra.

Born in 1940, Sharad Pawar joined politics as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC.)  Later, in 1999, he formed the NCP, an independent party. He served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra thrice.  He was also the Union Defence Minister and Agriculture Minister.

Apart from this, Sharad Pawar was also the Chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2005 to 2008 and the President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) from 2010 to 2012.

Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC) and others also wished Sharad Pawar on his birthday.
