The Telangana Police conducted a raid at the venue where a cockfight was organized.

Mr. Chintamaneni Prabhakar, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Andhra Pradesh and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) organized a cockfight in Patancheru at a mango grove.  However, after the police raid, the TDP leader along with 50 others escaped the spot.

Meanwhile, raided the place on a tip-off, the Telangana Police arrested 21 people, allegedly involved in the cockfight.  Some of the people who are arrested from Pedda Kanjarla village include those betting on the fight.

Patancheru Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhim Reddy said they conducted the raid after receiving information that Prabhakar was organizing cockfights.  The police team found about 70 people there but most of them, including Prabhakar, managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.  Furthermore, the police said, they seized 31 roosters, Rs. 13.12 lakh cash, 26 vehicles, and 27 mobile phones.

As per the police information, Chintamaneni Prabhakar conducted the cockfights, and Akkineni Satish, Krishnam Raju, and Barla Raju helped them to organize the event.

Meanwhile, it is to be noted, that cockfights are banned in the Telugu State, but despite this, many people, including political leaders, organized such fights in many parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh during Sankranti celebrations.  Crores of rupees change hands as cockfights are organized in towns and villages across several districts in the neighboring state.

In 2016, the Telangana High Court banned cockfights, which was later upheld by the Supreme Court.  Despite court orders, the cockfights continue unabated, reportedly under the patronage of elected public representatives.
