YS Jagan’s YSRCP Records Landslide Victory In AP Municipal Elections

The ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) got a landslide victory in the Andhra Pradesh Municipal elections.

Held on the 10th of March, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced the results of the municipal elections on the 14th of March. As per the counting, the YSRCP Congress in Andhra Pradesh today swept 74 out of 75 municipalities.

According to the sources, the YSRCP bagged 1,754 of the 2,122 wards in 75 municipalities. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won 270, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 8 and the JanaSena Party secured 19. In addition, Independents and other parties including the Indian National Congress had 71 seats.

The ruling Party also won a majority of seats in 11 corporations. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) managed to win only in two civic corporations, Tirupati and Mydukur. However, the result of elections to the Eluru Municipal Corporation is still pending. The Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) withheld the election results due to issues with the voter’s list. The fresh date for the election results for Eluru Corporation is yet to be announced.

Expressing happiness over the victory, the YSRCP Spokesperson Ambati Rambabu cited the Party’s welfare schemes as a reason for the victory. He said, “The elections were held after two years of (the) YSRCP governance and the results are a benchmark for the governance of Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy.” He further added, “The massive results are due to the implementation of welfare schemes by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy despite the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.”

The victory of the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP is being described as ‘Jagan Wash.’ With this, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor would be the candidates of the YSRCP in all 11 Municipal Corporations.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the President of the YSRCP is receiving a lot of support from the public. Despite ongoing issues with the three capitals of A.P., the Party is winning in every election. Recently, the Party also secured victories in the Grama Panchayat elections and now the Municipal elections. Considering these, it is expected the YSRCP would win the recently held Graduate Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) elections, as well.

The results of the Graduate MLC elections are scheduled to be announced on the 17th of March.

Stay tuned for further updates.
