After rounds of vote counting for the Atmakur by electrons, the Election Commission of India announced the ruling party the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) to win the by-election.
In the late evening of the 26th of June, Sunday, the ECI announced Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy to win the by election, with a majority of 82,000 votes. In all the 20 rounds of voting, Mr. Vikram Reddy led and won the seat. Notably, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) did not contest the Atmakur by election, as they have a tradition that if a family member of the deceased Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA)is contesting for a by election, the TDP would not nominate their candidate.
After the demise of Mr. Mekapati Goutham Reddy, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Atmakur, the seat fell vacant leading to by elections in the constituency. Now, his brother Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy contested from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) ticket and won the by election.
