Kavita Khanna, the wife of late legendary actor Vinod Khanna and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) is disappointed with the Party.

Ms. Khanna wished to get a BJP ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Gurdaspur constituency. However, the Party, on the 23rd of April, nominated Sunny Deol as the Member of Parliament candidate from Gurdaspur.

Ms. Khanna said, “I feel betrayed. I also feel that the wishes of people who wanted me as their MP were ignored.”

Mr. and Mrs. Khanna worked for 20 years for the development of Gurdaspur and its people. Vinod Khanna was the MP of the Gurdaspur constituency after he won the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

Later, after Vinod Khanna’s death in 2017, Sunil Jakhar of the Indian National Congress (INC) won the 2017 bypolls in Gurdaspur and became the MP.

When asked about her next step, Ms. Khanna, she said, “I am weighing all my options. I have not decided anything (yet). I have not taken any decision on any issue.”

This is not the first time the BJP denied a ticket to Kavitha Khanna. After the demise of her husband in 2017, the BJP disappointed Kavita by giving the MP ticket to Swaran Salaria.

Kavita was expecting to be given the MP ticket to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which was again given to some other candidate.

Sunny Deol will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Gurdaspur against the Indian National Congress.

The Lok Sabha elections are divided into 7 phases, scheduled on the 11th of April, 18th of April, 23rd of April, 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and the 19th of May.
