The much mused and buzzed upon film from Dharma Productions released today. “Baar Baar Dekho,” directed by Nithya Mehra, is a story about a time travelling maths scientist in pursuit of the meaning of life. But he finally understands that life is not about equations, but about eternal love.
And that is all to it, well almost! Jai Varma (Siddarth Malhotra) is the eccentric math genius who goes about the day amusing himself with questions and queries. Diya (Katrina Kaif) falls in love with his ingenious ways and muses herself with his multiplication talents. As the story progress, the relationship reaches to the marriage stage and Jai tries to hopelessly cling to the whirlwind hat his life becomes. But finally he cracks and storms off from his love, pondering that all the money for the wedding could have been used in his Vedic Maths research.
And then begins the Groundhog Day-ish phase of the film wherein Jai wakes up to see that his life has skipped two days ahead and now he is married to Diya. From there on, every day compounds and within 4 days he finds himself living the last day of his life. It is through this journey he understands that choosing career over care for his loved ones is never the answer. For the first time in his life, he realizes that his answer to a problem is wrong. How he travels back to the past to change that one day which unbalanced his expressly equationed life forms the crux of the film.
So that is the story of the film, supported by Sarika, Ram Kapoor, Sayani Gupta and Rajit Kapoor in small and wasted roles. Throughout the movie we can obviously depend on scenic locales and high end fashion fiestas, but we just wish that Katrina Kaif could have been more than a wax doll as always. Siddarth Malhotra tries to live up to the character to the best of his abilities. Good music is one of the factors that saves the day. All in all, another one of Karan Johar’s trademark films that will wow you with everything except its story.
