Coldplay is undoubtedly one of India’s most cherished alternative rock bands. With rumours of a show in India abound for months, a story broken this morning by Mid-Day puts all doubts to rest. Coldplay will be performing in Mumbai later this year in November. Sharing the stage will be Amitabh Bachchan, A.R. Rahman, Deepika Padukone and Aamir Khan among other international luminaries.
The only (substantial) deterrent to what could be an evening worth remembering is the ticket price. It starts at INR 25,000 and goes up to INR 5 lakhs! This is definitely disappointing for most of Coldplay‘s fans. A possible explanation, to quote Mid-Day, could be that “the event is a charitable one and the intention behind the concert is to support a noble cause, of removing extreme poverty from the entire world by 2030.”
