Los Angeles residents on January 1st, Sunday woke up to find the iconic Hollywood sign has been altered to read ‘Hollyweed.’ This incident happened as a New Year eve’s prank. At 3:00 A.M., a male suspect vandalized the sign, which was recorded on surveillance video.
Lt. Guy Juneau of Los Angeles Police Department Security Services Division said that the guy, dressed in all black, climbed up Mount Lee, made his way over the fence and vandalized the sign. He climbed up the Letters ‘O’ and then draped it with black traps so as to make them look like the lower case ‘e.’
The accused is on the run and if caught will face misdemeanor trespassing charges. LAPD also notified city’s Department of General Services, who patrol Griffith Park and the area near the sign. The tourists and residents were bewildered at the sight of the vandalized point. The rangers removed the traps and restored the sign to its proper form bu 11:15 A.M.
Some expressed that they came to see the Hollywood sign, and the Hollyweed visual made their day. A similar incident happened in 1976 and in 1986 it was changed by authorities for the promotion of the movie, ”Hollyweed.”
