Over 45 Indian movies are in the race of winning Oscar Award. Indian films have been shortlisted and made an official entry at the Oscars this year by the Film Federation of India.
The Films released from September 2014 till August 2015 are taken into consideration to be shortlisted. FFI will announce one film out of eight shortlisted as Indian Official Oscar entry by mid-September. Lets wait and hope that the best movie among them will win Oscar.
Here are few Films which have been Shortlisted for the Oscar.
Baahubali: The epic, period drama has been shortlisted as Tollywood’s official entry for India’s nominee for Oscar best foreign film category. Directed by S.S. Rajamouli. This movie features superstars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah.
Haider: Haider is directed by Vishal Bhaedwaj. Starring Tabu, Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, this Vishal Bhardwaj directorial was an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The film was acclaimed by critics, and also did respectably well at the box office. Haider received National Awards this year in various categories.
Bajrangi Bhaijjan: The movie directed by Kabir Khan. Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui on the lead roles. The film opened to good reviews in India and was lauded across the world for its message of Indo-Pak peace. This translated into great box office figures, and Indian film critics have recommended the film for a National Award nomination next year.
Piku: Directed by Shoojit Sircar. Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan cate pf Piku. A heart-wrenching story about a father-daughter relationship, this Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone film questioned the Indian mentality that takes daughters for granted, and makes strong feminist statements.
Mary Kom: Mary Kom is a 2014 Indian biographical sports drama film directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali andViacom 18 Motion Pictures. The film stars Priyanka Chopra in the lead role. The film depicts Kom’s journey of becoming a boxer to her victory at the 2008 World Boxing Championships in Ningbo City.
PK :Its a 2014 Indian satirical science fiction comedy film. The film was directed by Rajkumar Hirani, produced by Hirani andVidhu Vinod Chopra, and written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. The film stars Aamir Khan in the title role with Anushka Sharma. It tells the story of an alien who comes to Earth on a research mission. He befriends a television journalist and questions religious dogmas and superstitions.
